At present, the enabled storage room which covers about 100 m2, storing more than fifty thousand of specimens. The main collections were from the natural reserves, forests and conservation areas in East China, while others were from Yunnan province, Sichuan province, Shaanxi province, ect.
Herbarium of Chenshan Botanical Garden Shanghai is located in the main building of Shanghai Chenshan Plant Science Research Center, Chinese Academy of Science. This herbarium has been developed from the cited specimen room for living plants collection, which was founded during the construction of Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden in October 2006. The herbarium was moved into the new location when Chenshan Botanical Garden opened to public in 2010. In August 2010, the acronym of the Herbarium has been officially registered as CSH.
Planning & Design
According to plans, the herbarium covers an area of 1,500 m2, including herbarium hall, duplicate specimen room, preparation room, disinfection room, freezing room, drying room, identification room and study offices. There will be one million specimens of capacity in future.
The systems of the herbarium of ferns are arranged by Ching Ren-Chang system (1978), gymnosperms according to the Cheng Wan-Chun system (1978), and angiosperms by Adolf Engler system (1964). The genera and species within families are arranged alphabetically from A to Z.
